Judgement Day - The First Resurrection
The Judgement Day vision starts at Revelation 20:4
Then I saw thrones, and seated on them were those to whom judgment was committed. Also I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony to Jesus and for the word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life, and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he who shares in the first resurrection! Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and they shall reign with him a thousand years.
These people have already been judged so they will not suffer death a second time as those still to be resurrected may do, when they are judged later on.
But these people referred to as the "ones over whom the Second Death will have no power" and and who will "reign as priests with God for 1000 years" are not resurrectees as we have shown in the section headed The 144,000. The 144,000 are the crew members of this craft and will, of course, "reign as priests" or assistants, for the "1000 year kingdom on earth".
Please read this section before proceeding, if you have not already done so, or if you have forgotten what it said.
This seems to say that dedicated christians have been resurrected immediately to go aboard the New Jerusalem, together with those still alive after the Tribulation. But we are now looking at the final Judgement Day when "the rest of the dead are going to be ressurrected" and we must therefore be at the end of the 1000 years millennial kingdom. Now everyone is to be judged together. The survivors of the Tribulation and those who are now being ressurrected.
But the method of judgement is very interesting! You might imagine that the “judges” would be seated on the thrones to judge the others but in fact it is the other way round. Those being “judged” are on the “thrones” or “seats”.
How can people be judged? You could look at the “records” of each individual but these could not be in the form of a normal book because how could so many books be prepared and by whom?
A complete, compact and accurate record of a person’s life is the one stored in each individual’s brain, much of it, presumably, in the subconscious. With the correct equipment to “read” the person’s brain, a complete record of the person’s life might be retrieved. Are they seated on the thrones to somehow have their memories “read” and “retrieved”? Are these “scanners” at work?
If you consider this to be just too incredible, just look at a new development in computers announced recently. 0n 1st February 2012 an article appeared in a daily newspaper announcing that a computer has been developed to read thoughts.
The article reads: “Neuroscientists at the University of California Berkeley put electrodes into the skulls of brain surgery patients, to monitor information from their temporal lobes. As the patient listened to someone speaking, the computer program analyzed their brains and reproduced the words they had heard”. Read the full report
A further article appeared a few days later in The Mail on Sunday, which claimed that by 2045 we would have computers capable of uploading the memories of 8 billion people on to a single computer and you can read full details for yourself by clicking on the link.
Those who are alive at the time of The Judgement and pass the test, will travel in the New Jerusalem. Others, who had died previously in their devotion to Christ and lived particularly good lives, are raised immediately from the dead. They also will rule with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead will not be resurrected for 1000 years. Why is that? What is the significance of the 1000 years?
Now we know that John’s understanding is somewhat confused in respect of who are normal (if very advanced) people, and who are “angels”, God or Christ, so “reigned with Christ a thousand years” does not necessarily mean that Christ is on the ship.
The thousand years, however, is very interesting. It does not say that those who were not resurrected immediately were condemned to remain dead. It says that the rest of the dead did not live until the 1000 years had passed. It is also interesting to note that Satan was “chained and cast into the pit for 1000 years and when the 1000 years were up he should be loosed for a while”.
What is the problem with resurrecting the rest of the dead immediately, if indeed they can be resurrected? How can people who have been dead for hundreds, if not thousands of years, be resurrected? Let us look at the second question first.
As far as the Bible is concerned, only those “whose names are written in the Book of Life from the beginning of the world” will be resurrected. What is this “Book of Life”?
To the ancients it would be a simple book, or scroll, with the names of those eligible to be resurrected in it. But how can dead people be brought back to life?
Modern science has advanced today to the point where scientists can clone an animal, given a sample of tissue or bone, even if the animal is dead. But this is the very beginning of the cloning age and of decoding the human genome. In theory, given the DNA code of an individual, a new clone could be created from this information alone, without a sample.
If a “Book of Life” does exist, it would have to be on a computer infinitely larger and more powerful than any we have developed today, or can even imagine. However, looking at scientific advances in the last 50 years, it is not impossible to envisage that a race, sufficiently advanced to build “The New Jerusalem”, could have the technology to have developed this capability.
How far back would this information go? Would it go back to the first homo-sapiens created, or only 2000 years, to the time of Jesus? Perhaps he came to us to announce this new capability, which would operate from that time.
Developing a new body from the known DNA, however, would not resurrect the original individual. The clone would have none of the memories, or experiences of the original being. So how could this problem be resolved?
The brain is very similar to a computer which can absorb information and store it in a memory. This memory, on a computer, can be easily downloaded elsewhere, for instance to a disc or a new computer. Once a day, if required, the computer can back up on to a server, where a complete record can be stored and maintained. It can then be downloaded at any time in the future from the server, onto a disc, or to a new computer, even after the old computer has “died”.
In theory then, the memory could, given the technology, be downloaded from the information held on “the server” and transferred into the new clone. The new individual would then have all the memories of the original.
But one question remains. How can a human memory be uploaded to a “computer” in the first place and is there any evidence to suggest it as a possible explanation?
Spiritualists claim to have photographed a barely visible, silver stream of energy leaving the body on death, which they claim is the “soul” departing to “heaven”. Some have claimed that the same phenomenon occurs when a person sleeps, although in this case the “soul” remains attached to the body by the silver thread, whereas on death the “thread” is broken.
If this is the case, the stream of “energy” photographed could be a stream of “information”, which would “back-up” the main computer or “server”, wherever it is, each time the body sleeps, with a final back-up when the body dies.
So, in theory, allowing for a huge development in technology, physical resurrection could be a scientific possibility and the development of a computer which can apparently “read” the brain, as discussed previously, is a huge step in the direction of recording memories.
(7) And when the thousand years are ended, Satan will be loosed from his prison (8) and will come out to deceive the nations which are at the four corners of the earth, that is, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea.
We will see in a moment that there is something not quite right with the timing here. The great battle known as
Armageddon must take place before the 1000 years because no one will be on earth after the 1000years! More on this in a moment!
9 And they marched up over the broad earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city; but fire came down from heaven and consumed them,
10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulphur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who sat upon it; from his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, by what they had done. (This must be after the 1000 years have passed)
Note there are two books, just as we discussed earlier. One is the Book of Life, containing the DNA information, the other “book”, or computer, contains all the memories.
Although the “Book of Life” is frequently mentioned throughout the Book of Revelation, this is the first and only time this second book is mentioned and gives considerable weight to this incredible theory.
(13) And the sea gave up the dead in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead in them, and all were judged by what they had done.
14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire;
15 and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Why are the majority of the dead not resurrected for 1000 years? Why does Satan have to be “loosed” again after 1000 years? Why not leave him dead?
The initial batch of people taken into the New Jerusalem to “serve God for 1000 years”, must be the maximum number which the craft can accommodate. Although it is enormous, its capacity must be finite and the total number of people who have lived and died on earth, would be just too many for the craft to carry and feed for 1000 years.
The rest of the dead cannot be resurrected, or recreated, until the New Jerusalem reaches its destination, which will take 1000 years.
It is only then that the resurrection of the rest of mankind, the Devil included, will begin and the final judgments will then take place.
Revelation 20v1 says:
1 Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, holding in his hand the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain.
2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,
3 and threw him into the pit, and shut it and sealed it over him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years were ended.
After that he must be loosed for a little while.
“Satan, that old serpent” was previously identified as Saddam Hussein but as we have already seen, that does not necessarily mean that this Satan is the same person.
Whoever he is, he has been killed and “cast into the bottomless pit”, where he must remain for a thousand years, and must then be loosed for a little while. This did not previously make sense. Why would an evil entity be released from death for a little while?
The answer is, that he was just an ordinary, if evil, human who will be resurrected in due course, with all the others and “judged,” just as everyone else will be. It will be 1000 years before this happens, because he is just one of those not to be resurrected until reaching “The New Earth”.
